What is Solar PV?


Also called a photovoltaic system, is a type of solar power system that is often combined with a Power Purchase Agreement. The system consists of different components that help take solar radiation from the sun and convert it into usable electricity.

The system is suited for both large and small scale installations and can be a stand alone system though most are connected to the national grid.

It is becoming a popular solution to the often volatile energy market, allowing you to take your energy consumption into your own hands all while saving you money and producing no harmful emissions!

The system utilises photovoltaic technology that converts solar radiation into direct current electricity. There are semi conductors within the system that when absorbing sunlight electrons are freed and this creates the electric current. This type of photovoltaic technology works very well with solar panels, hence the creation of the solar PV system. This sustainable form of renewable energy is rapidly becoming more affordable and much more cost effective for businesses large and small.

On a more scientific level the photovoltaic system allows photons, or particles of light, to knock electrons free from atoms. This process generates a flow of electricity. The photovoltaic cells are literally turning sunlight into electricity!
